A neighbor's plight brought us together for a higher purpose.
Melanie had four children, the oldest being seven years old. She was a lovely
woman and a good mom, but her husband chose to leave for reasons of his own.
She was left penniless, jobless, with four babies with needs that couldn't wait.
She would have been more than willing to get out there and get a job, but the cost of childcare for four children would have cost more than she could have possibly made as a woman, in Kentucky, with no college degree.
We had to do something. So we compiled all our recipes and published a funny little irreverent cookbook.
The back page explained about the neighbor and why we were doing this. It was moderately successful, and very empowering for us to think that we could actually do something
that made a difference.
Armed with the awareness that all of us really can make a difference in the world around us, we set out.
We spent years and quite a bit of moolah
copyrighting and trademarking our name and logo. We worked, and researched, refining this vision. More importantly we lived.
We watched the world around us and decided what changes we wanted to see in the world and how we could create them.
We had several starts, but would become sidetracked by the other duties of our lives, not the least of which being Jeanne's breast cancer.
The vision and the ideals behind it never went away though.
